March, 2006. SECS completes restoration of the Department of Defense Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) tower located at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. This was the most recent project completed under a Tri-Agency NEXRAD Tower Inspection and Engineering Services contract. The purpose of the project is to evaluate tower condition and extend the “lifetime” of the tower structure through restoration to a “like new” condition. The project included mobilization, equipment purchases, shipping, logistics management, equipment rental, assembly and rigging for aerial lift, and staging for commencement. Restoration of the tower consisted of a sweep of the entire site, replacement of tower parts, fasteners, hardware, repairs, and finally the application of the corrosion control measures and was performed and approved to the satisfaction of Andersen Air Force Base representatives. The next scheduled project is the NEXRAD tower located at Kadena AFB in Okinawa, Japan, and is currently under review.
